Collisions of Random Walks

چکیده
A recurrent graph G has the infinite collision property if two independent random walks on G, started at the same point, collide infinitely often a.s. We give a simple criterion in terms of Green functions for a graph to have this property, and use it to prove that a critical Galton-Watson tree with finite variance conditioned to survive, the incipient infinite cluster in Z with d ≥ 19 and the uniform spanning tree in Z all have the infinite collision property. For power-law combs and spherically symmetric trees, we determine precisely the phase boundary for the infinite collision property.

Some sufficient conditions for infinite collisions of simple random walks on a wedge comb
In this paper, we give some sufficient conditions for the infinite collisions of independent simple random walks on a wedge comb with profile {f(n), n ∈ Z}. One interesting result is that two independent simple random walks on the wedge comb will collide infinitely many times if f(n) has a growth order as n log n. On the other hand, if {f(n);n ∈ Z} are given by i.i.d. non-negative random variab...
متن کاملCounting statistics: a Feynman-Kac perspective.
By building upon a Feynman-Kac formalism, we assess the distribution of the number of collisions in a given region for a broad class of discrete-time random walks in absorbing and nonabsorbing media. We derive the evolution equation for the generating function of the number of collisions, and we complete our analysis by examining the moments of the distribution and their relation to the walker ...
متن کاملA PRELUDE TO THE THEORY OF RANDOM WALKS IN RANDOM ENVIRONMENTS
A random walk on a lattice is one of the most fundamental models in probability theory. When the random walk is inhomogenous and its inhomogeniety comes from an ergodic stationary process, the walk is called a random walk in a random environment (RWRE). The basic questions such as the law of large numbers (LLN), the central limit theorem (CLT), and the large deviation principle (LDP) are ...
متن کاملCollisions of random walks and related diffusions
Consider n brownian motion particles on R, S, or n discrete time random walks on a graph G. A ‘collision’ occurs when two particles have the same position at the same time. Given a rule for modeling interactions between particles, we can analyze the long term behavior of such a system. We focus on the case where particles are independent, and briefly discuss : for example, where particles are c...
متن کاملQuantum Field Theory of Black-Swan Events
Free and weakly interacting particles are described by a secondquantized nonlinear Schrödinger equation, or relativistic versions of it. They describe Gaussian random walks with collisions. By contrast, the fields of strongly interacting particles are governed by effective actions, whose extremum yields fractional field equations. Their particle orbits perform universal Lévy walks with heavy ta...
